How can I structure a typical class session using Learning Catalytics?

Consider an example of using Learning Catalytics for a class session (see the video below for more information):

  • Before class: Have students reflect on class materials (readings, lecture videos, etc) and answer some questions in an asynchronous module such as the self-paced or self-test mode)
  • Start of class: Pose some key questions to ensure pre-class work
  • During class: 3-5 questions that reveal misconceptions or that provide opportunites to apply key concepts
  • End of class: Save a few mins at the end to ask students to summarize key concepts or report on further questions
