Updating your course to Perusall LTI 1.3

Educational Technology Services is updating our Perusall Canvas integration to the LTI 1.3 version for fall 2023 courses. This means your fall 2023 course shells will come with the latest version of the Perusall tool pre-installed.  See our article on how to enable the Perusall tool in your courses.

The Perusall LTI 1.3 integration brings a number of improvements, including:

  • Roster Sync
    • Upon the first time an instructor launches their Perusall course, their entire LMS course roster is available under the Students tab within their Perusall course and is updated each time the instructor launches Perusall.
  • Improved Grade Sync
    • Instructors no longer need to build assignment-specific links with case-sensitive titles in order to sync grades. In fact, students just  need to click at least one Perusall link in your LMS course (at least  once), and we will be able to sync all of their grades from the course.
  • Improved Group Sync Options
    • Instructors can now choose which group set to send to  Perusall.

How to update your existing courses to Perusall 1.3

If you used Perusall in a previous course, it is important that you do not import the old Perusall integration or Perusall assignment links into your new course. Here is how you do that:

Choose "Select specific content" when importing content from your previous courses

Notification Center

This allows you to copy the content you need and exclude the old Perusall content.

Make sure "Perusall" is NOT selected under "External Tools" on the Select Content window

Import Content: Jake 2023 Testing Course

Exclude any Perusall assignments when selecting assignments to import

If you accidentally imported your old Perusall content...

  1. Contact [email protected] to request that the old Perusall tool be removed from your Canvas site.
  2. Delete any Perusall assignment links that you copied over from your previous Canvas course.

Configuring the new Perusall integration in your course
