How do I set up automatic grading in Hypothesis?
Hypothesis allows for the user to set up automatic grading upon the creation of the Hypothesis assignment. This grading tool calculates how many comments and or replies you want the student to do on the assignment. The tool does NOT assess the comment itself, it is simply calculating how many comments and or replies a student leaves on the assignment.
Create a Hypothesis assignment normally through the External Tool Menu

After selecting your content, Check 'Enable automatic participation grading'

When setting up auto grading for your assignment you can choose a few different settings.
If you choose to 'Calculate Separately', replies are not counted toward either the 'Proportional' or 'All or Nothing' grading type. Only annotations would be counted. If you select 'Calculate Cumulative' Hypothesis will grade based on total amount of annotations and replies.
NOTE: This means if you ask the students to leave 6 annotations and 3 replies, but the student only leaves 9 annotations and 0 replies, the auto grader will still give the student full credit.
Add the amount of annotations you want a student to do in 'GOAL' then press continue

If Calculating Separately, set a goal for both annotations and replies

To see auto-grading results select SpeedGrader in Canvas

Select the account icon

Select Open dashboard

Confirm student's activity

In the dashboard you can organize by grade, annotations, replies or by last activity.
Hover over a student's grade to see a breakdown of the score.

This assignment was set to 'Proportional' grading type and to 'Calculate Cumulative' with a total of 9 annotations and replies.
When ready select Sync (X amount) grades in the top-right corner of the dashboard

After grades have been Synced to Canvas you will see a green 'Grades synced' message

Head over to the Canvas Gradebook to confirm that the grades have been sent over.
