How do I give an open book quiz using Lockdown Browser?
When using LockDown Browser with a Canvas quiz you have the option to share one or more resources with students during the exam by including a web link to content in Box.
NOTE: Currently Lockdown browser can't access web links inside Canvas, but it can access web links outside of Canvas. So, if your resources for the quiz are located inside a Canvas course you will need to move them to Box:
Create a Quiz in Canvas
NOTE: In Canvas you can use either a New Quiz or Classic Quiz to create an open book exam. However, when possible Tufts recommends using New Quizzes for a better student experience.
In a Canvas New Quiz: Select "Build" and add your resources as web links in the "Quiz Instructions" field on the Build page
In a Canvas Classic Quiz add your resources in the "Quiz Instructions" field on the main settings page
Log into Box and locate the file you want students to have access to. Click the "Share" icon (curved arrow).
Ensure your share link settings are correct:
Be sure to set these to "People with the link" and "Can view Only". This will ensure there will not be any access issues for the students.
Go back into Canvas to your Canvas "Quiz Instructions" box
Paste your link into the "Link" box and add your resource name in the "Text" box, then click "Done"
This creates a clickable hyperlink within the quiz and allows your students to open it in another tab in the LockDown Browser app.
NOTE: You can add as many web linked resources as you would like the students to have access to.
NOTE: Each file opened requires additional internet bandwidth. It may take a minute for the file to populate in the other tab in order for the student to access it. Please inform your students of this possibility and remind them to only open up the resource tabs links they need to refer to.
