How do I start a Zoom class meeting as an Alternate Host?

When starting/joining Zoom meetings, you must be logged into Zoom in order for the system to recognize you and grant you host privileges.

If you are not logged into Zoom, the system will not recognize you, and will only allow you participant (not host) privileges. If this happens to you, leave the meeting, log into Zoom, and then rejoin the meeting. Zoom will then recognize you and grant you host privileges.

Log into Zoom

How do I sign into the Zoom app on my computer desktop?

Zoom requires us to log in every 30 days, so if you have already logged in recently, you are all set.

Log into Canvas

It does not matter if you log into Zoom first or Canvas first, as long as you are logged into both before you attempt to start the Zoom meeting.

Go to Canvas Zoom

Navigate to the Zoom tab in the course navigation panel.

Start the meeting

Click on the 'start' button by the meeting.

Confirm host privileges

Click on the Participants icon to bring up the participants list

Confirm that you have the 'host' role.

When an alternate host starts the meeting, Zoom converts them to the host role. If you are not logged into Zoom, the system will not recognize you, and will only allow you participant (not host) privileges. If this happens to you, leave the meeting, log into Zoom, and then rejoin the meeting. Zoom will then recognize you and grant you host privileges.

Click on the Share Screen icon to bring up the share menu

Confirm that you can share your screen.
