How do I populate Canvas sections with student (and TA) accounts?

Once you have created a new section, you can populate that section with user accounts.

Click People

To the far right of the student’s name, click on the Properties icon (3 vertical dots) and select “Edit Sections”

This displays the Section Enrollments dialogue box

Click “Browse” and select the section you want the student to belong to (Note: students can belong to more than one section)

Click Update

This adds the account to the section.

Note: Users can belong to more than one section
Note: You can remove a student from a section by clicking on the "X" icon

Note: To assign a TA to a section, you must first assign the TA to 2 sections, click update, go back to edit sections and remove the second section

Example of Section listing in People

To limit a user to interact with a specific section only, click on Properties and select User Details

Under Membership / Privileges, select "limit this user to only see fellow section users"
