How do I link to a file in a Canvas text box?
Instructors can easily link to any file uploaded to their Canvas Files tool in Canvas tool that uses the Rich Content Editor. (These tools include Syllabus, Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, Classic Quizzes, and Pages)
Click on the tool that contains the Canvas text box in which you want to link the file

Click Edit

This displays the Rich Content Editor.
Click on the "More" icon (three vertical dots), select the Documents icon, and select "Course Documents"

This displays an "Add" panel on the right displaying all of the files uploaded to the course site Files tool.
Select the file you want to link from the list

This automatically creates a link in the text box to the file in the Files tool.

When a student clicks on the link, the file will open in the Canvas document viewer.
Optional: Automatically display the file inline preview
Highlight the link, then click on Options

This displays the Link Options panel on the right.
Check the box next to "Automatically open an in-line preview. (Preview displays only after saving)," and click Done

Depending which tool you are using, click "Update Syllabus" or "Save" or "Save/Publish" or "Post"

This will automatically display an inline preview of the document in the tool.
