How do I add a custom link to my course navigation?
Teachers, TAs and Designers can add custom links to the navigation menu of a course site.
Prior to Fall 2026, Teachers used the Redirect Tool external app to add custom navigation links. That tool remains active, but we recommend migrating links to the native Canvas tool by following the steps below.
Go to Settings
Click the Navigation tab
Click the Add a Link button
The Add a Link button will be at the bottom of your enabled tools list.
Enter a short title and the URL and click the Add button
Click Save
Custom links will show in the Course Navigation with an "external link" icon.
