How do I set up a Piazza discussion board for my site?

By default, the Piazza tool is not listed in the Canvas course site navigation panel. Instructors must first add the Piazza tool to the Canvas course site.

To add the Piazza tool to a Canvas site, Click Settings.

This displays the Canvas course site settings page.

Click the Navigation tab.

Enable the new Piazza 1.3 link

The old link will be labeled "Piazza" (no number). If this link is currently visible in your course, find it in the navigation tab and click on the three dots to the right. Then choose "Disable."  The old "Piazza" link is scheduled to be removed from Canvas in Dec 2023.

The new link will be labeled "Piazza 1.3" (has a number). To make this link visible to your students, you  can click on the three dots to the right and choose "Enable."

Go to Piazza

The first time you click on the Piazza tool, the Create Your Class page is displayed.

Enable Automatic Roster Sync

The Canvas roster will automatically be synced with your Piazza roster.  If you have used Piazza in the past you may have added a password to control roster sync, this step will alleviate the need to set a password.

Create a class OR connect to an existing course

Add estimated enrollment number, then click Create Class.

Note: If you would like to use one of your existing Piazza sites, click Search.

Create Account, click Continue.

Create Account, click Continue.

If you do not already have a Piazza user account, you will need to create one.
