Instructors - How do I assess a student?

If a student has requested an assessment from you, you will receive an email. Follow the link in the email to go directly to the assessment form. The assessment form appears.

Alternatively, to see all your assessment requests, go to the Competency Checklist course site.

Log into Canvas and click on the VET-400cc-Cummings Clinical Competency Checklist tile on your Dashboard.

If you do not see a VET-400cc tile, click on the Courses button in the global navigation. Select All Courses and look for VET-400cc-Cummings Clinical Competency Checklist in the list.

Click on Competency Checklist in the course navigation menu.

The Competency Checklist tool appears.

If you have assessments to complete, a Pending Assessments button appears.

Click on the Pending Assessments button to see the list of assessments you have been asked to complete.

Click on any row to begin that assessment.

The assessment form appears.

If student images have been uploaded, a picture of the student appears.

If you cannot assess the student on the competency, select the Can't Assess button at the bottom of the screen.

The student receives an email notifying them that you have declined to attest to their competency in this area.

Otherwise, indicate whether the student has demonstrated the competency by selecting Yes or No.

If the student has demonstrated the competency, select Yes.

If appropriate, select the Demonstrated Excellence checkbox.

Write any comments that would be helpful for the student.

Click the Competent button.

The student receives an email notifying them that you have attested to their competency. Any comments you entered will be included in the email.

If the student has not demonstrated the competency, select No.

If you select No, text will appear below the Yes/No options. This notification will be emailed to the student along with any comments you include.

Write any comments that would be helpful for the student.

Click the Notify Student button.

The student will receive an email notifying them that you did not attest to their competency. Any comments you entered will be included in the email.
