Instructors - How do I assess a student?
How do I complete an Instant Assessment for a student?
When a student has requested a clinical procedure assessment from you, if you can immediately evaluate them, proceed to the next step. If you cannot immediately evaluate, Instruct the student to send an Email Assessment request instead.
After the student has performed the clinical procedure, they will present a QR code to you. Scan the QR code using a mobile device to complete their evaluation.
On your first attempt to log in, you will be prompted to enter a verification code* that is sent to the Assessor’s email.
*After you log in with your verification code, your session stays active for 14 days. If you complete Instant Assessments each day, your session will remain active beyond this period. If you don’t complete any additional Instant Assessments during the initial 14 days, you’ll need to enter a new verification code to start a new session.
The assessment form appears. Enter your feedback and click on the appropriate level of skill using the evaluation scale below.
| Skill Level | Definition |
|---|---|
| Novice | Performed the clinical procedure with continuous assistance and direct supervision. |
| Advanced Beginner | Performed the clinical procedure with intermittent assistance and direct supervision. |
| Competent | Performed the clinical procedure without assistance but with support available if needed. |
| Proficient | Performed the clinical procedure independently. Demonstrated fluidity and efficiency in procedural performance. |
| Can’t Assess | Student did not perform the clinical procedure and/or QR code was erroneously generated. |
Important to Note:
After you scan the student’s QR code, it stays active for 24 hours. If you do not complete the Instant Assessment within that time, the request expires. The student’s checklist will show that the evaluation was not finished and they will need to request a new assessment.
