How do I update an assignment to use the new Turnitin CPF tool?
If you import course content from an older course site and you previously used Turnitin for your assignments, the new assignments will be set up to use Turnitin as an external tool (Legacy Turnitin). We recommend that you update those assignments to use the new Turnitin Canvas Plagiarism Framework (CPF) tool.
Go to Assignments

Select the imported assignment

Change the Submission Type from External Tool to Online

Select Text Entry, File Uploads, or both

Turnitin can check Text Entry submissions as well as uploaded files. (See the file types Turnitin will check for similarity.)
Select "Turnitin (Canvas Plagiarism Framework)" from the Plagiarism Review dropdown menu

Options for setting up Turnitin will appear.
Choose your Turnitin settings

You have several options for storing and comparing student submissions.
The Store submissions in option determines whether and where student papers are stored for future similarity comparisons.
- Standard paper repository: Submissions are stored in the global Turnitin repository.
- Institution paper repository: Submissions are stored in a repository which is only accessible by your institution.
- Do not store the submitted papers: A Similarity Report will be generated for submissions, but submissions will not be stored in the standard repository or the institutions repository for future comparison.
The Compare submissions against option allows you to choose types of databases that will be used to generate Similarity Reports.
The Similarity Report option allows you to exclude things that might trigger an artificially high similarity score, like bibliographic citations, quoted passages, and small sources. Learn more about exclusions and filters.
Determine when to make reports available to students

Under Show report to students you have several options for when and whether to make Similarity Reports available to students.
Fill in other Canvas assignment settings
After finishing the Plagiarism Review settings, finish setting up your Assignment by selecting any Group or Peer Review options and determining Due Dates and Availability Dates.
