IgniteAI Tools at Tufts
IgniteAI is a collection of tools developed by Instructure, the makers of Canvas. These include tools that use generative AI (such as Rubric Generator and Image Alt Text Generator) and those that don't (such as IgniteAI search).
The majority of these tools are currently disabled for use at Tufts. We will continue to investigate IgniteAI features thoroughly making them available to instructors. We also encourage you to review Instructure's "Nutrition Facts" for IgniteAI tools, which provide some technical details around capabilities and safeguards.

Enabled tools
The following tools are enabled and on by default:
- Accessibility Remediation for Courses
- Search for Courses (formerly SmartSearch)
To disable these tools in your course site, remove them from the site navigation menu. (How do I hide/show items in my course site navigation menu?)
Available tools (feature options)
The following tools are feature options. They are disabled by default, but they can be enabled by individual instructors:
To enable or disable a feature option, go to your course site Settings and click on the Feature Options tab. See the Canvas Guides for a detailed walkthrough.
Unavailable tools
The following tools are not currently available at Tufts:
- Translations for Discussions, Inbox, and Announcements
- Generator for Rubrics
- Grading Assistance for SpeedGrader
- Insights for Discussions
- IgniteAI Agent for admins and instructors
- IgniteAI Study Tools
