What is Canvas Commons?

Canvas Commons will be available in late August 2026.

Canvas Commons ("Commons") is a digital repository that allows Teachers, Designers and TAs to find, import, and share resources. Faculty can share entire courses, modules, assignments, files, or quizzes privately, within groups, or across the university.

You can use Commons to:

  • Share resources with other teachers at across Tufts;
  • Share resources with a smaller group, like a department or program;
  • Search for and import content into your Canvas courses;
  • Make a personal learning object repository: add content that can be used across your own courses and make it private to you.

Important things to note about Commons

  • The use of Canvas Commons is completely optional.
  • Our version of Commons is restricted to Tufts users. We do not see or have access to resources from other schools. Other schools do not have access to our content.
  • Students cannot access materials on Commons. Only Admins, Teachers, Designers, and Teaching Assistants have access to Commons.
