I'm an instructor. How do I email my class?
Instructors can email a message to anyone that has an active account on any of their published course sites
- The recipient must have an active account on the course site (see the People tool for a list of active accounts on the site)
- The course site must be published
Go to Inbox
The Inbox stores a copy of all emails sent to you (and by you) by other account holders through Canvas.
Click the Compose a new Message icon
This displays the Compose Message form
Use the Select Course dropdown box to select the course, whose participants you want to email
Click the Accounts icon to the far right of the "To" box to bulk email class participants
"All In ..." to email all active account holders in course
"Teachers" to email all account holders with Teacher Access
"Students" to email all Student account holders in the course
"Student Groups" to email all Student Groups (If you or your students have created groups)
OR - Click on any of the bulk groups to select individuals from that group
Note: You can select multiple bulk groups and/or multiple individuals
Enter a Subject and the Message
Consider selecting "Send an individual message to each recipient"
If "Send an individual message to each recipient" is checked, any recipient that clicks "Reply All" to the received email will be sending their reply to YOU ONLY.
If "Send an individual message to each recipient" is not checked, any recipient that clicks "Reply All" to the received email will be sending their reply to ALL PARTICIPANTS that received the email.
Option - Click Attachments icon to add an attachment
This displays your computer's file locator allowing you to select and add a file attachment to the email
Option - Create and attach a WebCam Video
This opens your computer's webcam and allows you to attach a webcam recording to the email
This sends an email to the selected recipients and stores a copy of the email in your "Sent" box for this course.
