How do I add library items to the reading list? (new)

Tufts is returning to offering physical reserves.Physical items that you add to your Reading List will be placed on reserve at your home library. As always, you can also include electronic material that is available in our collection on your Reading List or contact your library to request that we try to purchase materials in electronic format.

To add items from the libraries’ collections to your Reading List, click the large plus sign (+) in the blue box at the top of the Reading List sections.

Note: Depending on your browser you may see the words “Add Items”:

Or you may just see a plus sign:

When you click Add Items, a grid of options will appear in the right panel of the screen.

Choose Library Search to add items from the library’s collections.

This opens a search box that is identical to searching Jumbo Search. To limit your search to library items, choose Library Catalog.

Enter your search terms. After you find an item you want to add, just click on the item, and then click Add.

For an electronic item (e-book, article, streaming media)

The item will appear at the bottom of the section you added it to and will be available to your students immediately using the View Online link.

For a physical book or score

The item will appear at the bottom of the section you added it to. You will notice that the citation says “Sent.”This means the library will be alertedthat you want this item added so that they can retrieve it from the shelves or recall it if necessary. The item is not automatically placed on reserve at this point! You can monitor the item’s status in your Reading List. When the status is “Complete,” the item is on reserve and available for your students to access.

For a physical video recording

After clicking Add, you will see a pop-up form, where you’ll enter details about what your students need access to. If your students will be required to view the recording, the library can make it available by providing access to licensed streaming content or by digitizing small amounts under fair use.

Enter the start and end times of the section(s) your students will need to view or indicate whether the entire film is needed.

If requesting an entire film, please include a short note about why you need the film (for example, that the film is required viewing and/or supports a required text, or that the film is most meaningful to your teaching and learning objectives when viewed in its entirety), which will help the libraries stay in compliance with Fair Use guidelines.

Choose the appropriate option from the Copyright Declaration dropdown menu.
